2020 Season Has Been Cancelled

Dear SMYFC Families,

2020 Season:

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we write to inform you that the SMYFC 2020 Football and Cheer season has been cancelled.  

This decision has not come lightly.  For 51 years, SMYFC has prepared youngsters to face the future with sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty, responsibility, self-discipline, positive aspirations and academic preparedness.  This was going to be a great year for our children and our organization.  We had big registration numbers very early on and we were anticipating one of our best seasons yet!  

Since March, and the onset of Covid-19, SMYFC has held numerous meetings to try to figure out a way that we could safely hold a season for our children.  We’ve spoken with Marin County health officials, insurance agencies, presidents of both youth and high school sport organizations, and to the other teams within the NBYFC organization.  We’ve considered every potential scenario and we’ve tried our very hardest to make it work.  Unfortunately, there are countless obstacles that prevent us from being able to move forward:  from field rentals, to large spectator crowds and to ever changing and increasing state and county health guidelines.  Ever since our first season back in 1969, the health and safety of our children has been our sole priority.  With the strict safety guidelines currently in place, we are simply unable to move forward with the 2020 season. 

 

Moving Forward:

We know, that now more than ever, our children need this community!  Our kids need to move their bodies, they need to interact with their peers and they need to be challenged both mentally and physically!  Your SMYFC board members are looking at ways in which we can provide some sort of programming for our kids this Fall.  May it be small group conditioning or an online training program, we are not going to give up on our children.  We are in the very initial stages of planning however there are numerous things to consider before we are able to roll out a program.  We will spend the next month researching and brainstorming, we hope to reach out to all of you at the end of July with something in place that is safe and successful for our kids.  Stay tuned!

 

Refunds, Roll Overs & Support:

SMYFC will of course issue full refunds to all who are currently registered for the 2020 season.  We are also able to roll over all registration fees to the 2021 season if desired.  We do hope that you will consider donating a portion, if not all of your registration fee, to the SMYFC organization.    SMYFC is a non-profit organization and we have taken a big hit this year.  Because of Covid-19, we were unable to hold our summer camp (our biggest fundraiser of the season), we will most likely be unable to hold a Green & Gold Mixer in the Fall and we have already spent thousands on reconditioning our equipment for the season.  We understand that we are not the only members in this community that have been hit hard by this virus, so any support is greatly appreciated.  

 

Here’s what to do:

Refunds:  If you would like to receive a refund, please email our Registrar Chair Katy Sheffield at reg.smyfc@gmail.com.  Please indicate in your email YOUR CHILD’S NAME, REFUND and whether or not you would like to receive a FULL or PARTIAL Refund.  

Deadline to request a Refund is Monday, July 27th 2020. 

Roll Overs:  If you would like to roll over your registration fee, please email our Registrar Chair Katy Sheffield at reg.smyfc@gmail.com.  Please indicate in your email YOUR CHILD’S NAME and ROLLOVER. You must roll over your entire registration fee.  

Deadline to Roll Over your registration is Monday, July 27th 2020. 

Donations:  If you wish to donate your 2020 registration fee to SMYFC, no need to do a thing!  If we don’t receive a Refund or Roll Over request from you by the July 27th  2020 deadline, your 2020 registration fee will be donated to the organization.  You may also donate to SMYFC by clicking on the link below:
